Messages of hope...

In light of the wave of hope washing over the nation, I've taken a moment to appreciate the sentiments of young people-- people who know that our work didn't stop on November 4th.

Today, at the Walters, we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr's birthday with a family festival encouraging the masses to come in out of the cold, to create, learn and share as a community. Among the projects, we invited kids to stand at the podium and address the group with messages of hope and the future, as Dr. King had done, then draw postcards with messages of THEIR dreams.

The preceding were amongst my favorites.
Let yourself be inspired and remember-- our work is not done. We have a new leader, not a magician. Take time to volunteer at a school; to clean up a local park; to sign petitions and spread the word; to be the change you wish to see.

recycled wearable love

i'm procrastinating again... not only procrastinating on "real work", but putting off writing the blog posts i've meant to write (like, oh, wrapping up the holidays or talking about the new year or telling you about the classes i'm teaching and exhibitions i've been invited to... but, it takes too long to resize pictures and write witty things)...

so, i'll tell you about one of my newest loves--- the recycled plastic knitimal pins!

they're made from #6 plastic (the kind you can't recycle everywhere) and melted down "shrinky dink" style, then hand painted and sealed. each one is completely one of a kind and make great gifts since they can be worn by anyone at any time!

... In the midst of resume updates and syllabus writing; tour route practicing and class prep, I can't help but wish I was small enough to curl up on someone's lap and sleep, sleep, sleep.
