procrastination 101: monopoly

if you set up a card table in the living room, you're essentially committing to a game of monopoly that might break out at any time and might just last for days.
also, the dog might challenge you to a match every now and again.

on my desk: tuesday

well folks, as i mentioned last week, i have been excitedly painting & drawing and working on some new two-dimensional pieces for the first time in a long time... well, not counting walls...
the smallness of the act is reminding me of the importance of precision, patience and time; layering is my friend.
i got an email last week asking me about my technique; seems many believe my work to be digital, and this particular emailer was wondering what was up with the watercolor cakes so near to the illustration. I can assure you, dear readers, the only thing i use my computer for is resizing images for my store & websites, typing up lesson plans, storing 85 billion photos of mason, and googling... occasionally YouTube-ing... speaking of which, can we discuss this (and how i'll love love love him for ever).
anyway, yes, my illustrations are done manually. all the collage is real paper and glue; the bulk of the image is watercolor and layers of colored pencil.
speaking of layers... here's where i'm at so far.

painting again: part 1

i've been kicking myself in the butt for taking so long to do this, but armed with a new sketchbook (thanks, love) and a whole bunch of ideas i just couldn't fit in my brain anymore, i've started drawing and painting again. it feels good, i have to say. of course i love the knitimals and making coloring books and cutting out stickers and teaching... but, being back at my desk feels like getting back in touch with a good old friend.
i am currently working on not one, but THREE illustrations, and i figured i'd let you get a sneak peek at this first one, and check in every now and again with the progress.
and not to be outdone.. i'm finally putting the time into a new line of art dolls i've been kicking around for a while.
and yes, i'll tell you everything you need to know about them in due time.
xo, danamarie
